A recent European Social Fund investment in South East Cornwall designed to help people improve their quality of life is already having an impact.  The £4 million project called, Positive People recently held events in Saltash and Torpoint and the whole family was invited.

The open events were a first introduction to the new project that will help people move towards or into employment.  Focussed on people living in the area that are unemployed, Positive People is offering a range of workshops that will improve self confidence and awareness of career opportunities.  Even more, individuals will be supported to access skills and qualifications that improve employability.  Over the next three years, over 1,000 individuals will be supported.

During the two events more than 200 families enjoyed silly science, mini-beast spotting, den making and bush craft.  Despite the rain, the families had fun getting muddy, roasting marshmallows and listening to poetry. They were also joined by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service on their local community bus.

What did people think about Positive People?

John, from Torpoint who attended the event, said: “I am a single Dad with two young girls and am not currently working. My girls are my focus but having talked through ideas with Zena from Positive People, I realise that I also need to make a plan for my future as well.  Knowing they can discuss ideas with me and help me find a way forward has really excited me about my future.”

Positive People is a partnership between Pluss, Cornwall Neighbourhoods 4 Change, Cornwall Marine Network, Active Plus, Addaction and Pentreath. Together, they will deliver personally tailored activities to help with personal development, health and wellbeing, and digital technology.
