Drive EV2 is extending the network of electric vehicle (EV) charge points throughout Cornwall, enabling the transition to more efficient ultra low emission vehicles.  A minimum of 150 fast/rapid EV charge point units will be deployed across Cornwall.

Delivered by Cornwall Council, this project builds on the 45 charge points delivered by the Council’s earlier Drive EV1 project which was funded by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles .

Drive EV2 is providing both rapid onward travel recharging points and fast destination charging facilities.

Where technically feasible, rapid onward travel (50-150 kW) recharging facilities will be installed in places that are not currently adequately served by rapid (50kW) charge points.

Fast (7-22kW) destination charging will be provided at St Erth Multi-Modal Hub as well as in town centre public car parks, council offices and premises, some local communities and other strategic locations across Cornwall.

As well as delivering the installation, operation, maintenance and revenue collection from charge points, Drive EV2 is promoting use of the charge points and engaging with businesses to increase usage.

The main beneficiaries of the project will be EV drivers across Cornwall – residents and visitors, businesses with fleets of electric vehicles, panel vans or cars, as well as community organisations, for example those providing volunteer support drivers. EV take-up in such fleets is being actively promoted in tandem with the EV infrastructure initiative.

By delivering a greatly extended network of charge points and increased capacity, Drive EV2 will reduce actual and perceived range anxiety – concerns about vehicles having enough power to reach their destination.  The project will also support a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from transport use and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles rather than fossil-fuelled transportation.
