Following an open tender process, the contract for the design and construction of the first building on the Technology Park, the Employment Space for Advanced Manufacturing, has been awarded to the Kier Group, resourced through their local office in Truro.  The detailed design phase of the project will begin immediately with construction expected to commence in May 2017.

The Carluddon Technology Park is located within the heart of the Eco-Communities Initiative, just four miles from the Eden Project, on a site  adjoining the recently completed, ERDF funded A391 Carluddon Road Improvement.

The focus of the development is the Employment Space for Advanced Manufacturing, which will be complete and ready for fit out by tenants in Spring 2018. The building will have the capacity to provide office / workshop space and business support services for up to 27 advanced manufacturing and low carbon environmental goods and service sector businesses, with the potential to create up to 75 high skilled jobs by 2023. It will be built to the ‘Excellent’ BREEAM standard, setting a benchmark for design quality and sustainability for the area.

The project will also provide access and utility services to the wider Technology Park site, which has the capacity and outline planning permission for the provision of up to an additional 6,000m² of commercial workspace.

Julian German, Cornwall Council Cabinet member and Portfolio Holder for Economy said, “This is another key milestone completed and it will be great to see work start on site next year. We promised that the infrastructure for the eco-community would be put in place and we have delivered on this promise”.

John Hodkin representing Imerys and Eco-Bos said, “It is good to see positive progress being made on this project which forms a key part of the wider regeneration of the area and the creation of a vibrant new Eco-Community.

“We were pleased to have provided the land for both this project and the recent A391 improvement and we look forward to further areas of land being brought back into use for the economic and social benefit of Mid Cornwall and those who live here.”

Small or Medium Sized Enterprises interested in locating in the new state of the art facilities are encouraged to come forward at this early stage of the project. The Council is also keen to hear from organisations interested in developing proposals for the wider Technology Park.  All enquiries should be directed to  Greg Slater, Economic Development Commissioning Officer by email to gslater@cornwall.gov.uk
